The "glue" that holds it all together is an important detail that can't be overlooked. Regardless of how durable the fabric or how skillfully it's sewn, your project is only as good as what holds it together. We use only the highest quality threads for your projects, choosing the one that best suits your particular needs.
Heminway & Bartlett, manufactured by Coats, has set the industry standard with their bonded Dabond (polyester) thread. It exhibits high strength and controlled stretch and its antiwick properties reduce the penetration of water through the stitching. Other benefits that make it a good choice for tough marine conditions include stability in sunlight (UVR) and resistance to abrasion, saltwater and mildew.
Seam failure is generally the result of thread that has been adversely affected by the elements. With Tenara, that problem is solved. This remarkable thread is manufactured by Gore-Tex from 100% expanded PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethlyene), commonly known as Teflon. It is impervious to cleaning agents, pollution, fuel, saltwater and other destructive substances. More importantly, it is unaffected by ultraviolet radiation and will not degrade from continuous sun exposure and as such, is guaranteed to outlast the life of the fabric! This lifetime warranty is something that Gore-Tex stands behind. In fact, if the thread ever fails due to exposure, the company will pay for the reseaming repair work.
Tenara thread can truly enhance the life of your project and we especially recommend it in cases like t-tops where removal and re-installation of the canvas for maintenance is costly and time-consuming.
